Congratulations to this year's 2013 Youth Garden Grant Winners!!! 

 

NGA is delighted to announce that The Home Depot Garden Club continues to sponsor Youth Garden Grants (YGG). In the past six years, The Home Depot Garden Club has contributed over $400,000 to support school garden programs. In its 30-year history, Youth Garden Grants have supported more than 1.3 million youngsters through gardening programs. Thanks to the generosity of The Home Depot Garden Club, five winners will receive gift cards valued at $1,000, and 95 winners will receive $500 gift cards, to purchase gardening materials and supplies from their local Home Depot store specific to the needs of their program.Gainesville GA

Program Criteria

NGA awards Youth Garden Grants to schools and community organizations with child-centered garden programs. Priority will be given to programs that emphasize one or more of these elements:

  • integration of content standards
  • nutrition connections
  • environmental awareness
  • entrepreneurship
  • social aspects of gardening such as leadership development, team building, community support, or service-learning

Who is eligible to apply

Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities, and inter-generational groups throughout the United States are eligible. Applicants must plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. Previous Youth Garden Grant winners who wish to reapply may do so, but must wait one year between winning and reapplying (e.g., if you won in 2011, you can apply again in 2013) and have significantly expanded their garden program(s).

Grant Packages

For the 2013 grant cycle, 100 grants are available. All winning programs will receive curricula from NGA to complement the following packages:

  • Five (5) programs will receive gift cards valued at $1000. (A $500 gift card* to The Home Depot and a $500 gift card to the Gardening with Kids catalog.)
  • Ninety-five (95) programs will receive a $500 gift card* to The Home Depot.
  • *Note: Home Depot gift cards must be used in person at Home Depot stores. They are not valid for online purchases.

Due Date: Applications must be submitted by December 3rd, 2012.

Steps to Register and Apply:

  1. Log into your Kidsgardening.org user account.
  2. Click “Apply Now”.
  3. Fill out the “Garden Registry Form”* for your program. Proceed to the application.

*All applicants are required to register with our Garden Registry before applying for a grant. This will help connect your garden to other garden programs, future funding opportunities, and volunteer support. You will not be able to submit a grant application without creating a Garden Registry profile for your program. See our privacy policy if you have questions about how we use the registry information. Photos of your program are not required during the application process, but if you would like to include them please use one of the following formats: JPEG, GIF, PNG, PDF.

Award Fulfillment

Winners will be notified via email on February 19th, 2013. A list of winners will also be posted on www.kidsgardening.org. Awards will be distributed in February 2013.

Reporting requirement

Grant awardees will be required to submit two surveys. These reports help NGA determine the overall impact of the grant program and gather ongoing support for youth gardening. Recipients who do not complete these requirements will not be eligible to apply for future awards.

Program winners are required to provide the following:

  • 5-10 digital photos. Note: Parental photo permission forms (available at http://www.kidsgardening.org/grants-and-awards) will be required for all youth in photos. (Either use the release form provided, or supply an equivalent that is inclusive of NGA and its sponsors.)
  • A pre- and post- gardening survey must be completed. Award winners will receive instructions for completing these documents.
  • A one-page essay detailing the program’s progress and achievements.

No purchase necessary. Purchase of a product does not improve your chances of receiving an award.
