Congratulations to the Spring 2016 Team UP for Healthy School Garden Grant Winners!

Join Jamba Juice and KidsGardening.org as we Team Up for Healthy School Gardens! This year Jamba Juice, in partnership with KidsGardening.org, will offer 50 grants in two cycles. By the end of 2016, Jamba Juice will have provided close to 250 grants totaling $130,000 for schools and youth gardens. Now that’s a great reason for us all to raise a smoothie!

Who is Eligible to Apply

The Spring 2016 Team Up for Healthy School Gardens Grant is open to public and private schools grades prek to 12 located in:

  • Fresno, California
  • Livermore, California
  • Pasadena, California
  • Orlando, Florida
  • Atlanta, Georgia (including Alpharetta, Marietta, and Sandy Springs)
  • New Orleans, Louisiana (including Metarie)
  • Minneapolis, Minnesota (including Bloomington, Edina, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, St. Paul, and Woodbury)
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (including Malvern and Willow Grove)
  • Nashville, Tennessee (including Franklin)
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin (including Brookfield and Wauwatosa.

New and established garden programs may apply.  All programs must involve at least 15 youth participants ages 3 to 18.

Recipients will be selected based on plans to promote nutrition education, ideas for incorporating fruit and vegetable activities into the curriculum, and the ability to sustain their garden program over multiple years.

Grant Packages

The Spring 2016 Team Up for Healthy School Gardens Grant will award 32 grant recipients with gardening packages and funding. 31 programs will receive a grant package valued at $500 which will include curriculum books, a $350 Gardener’s Supply gift certificate, and $100 cash to be used to purchase soil amendments and fruit and vegetable plantings. One grand prize winner will receive a package valued at $750 which will include curriculum books, a $450 Gardeners Supply gift certificate and $250 cash.   

Submission Process

Due Date:Applications must be submitted by midnight on March 31, 2016 through our online application system.

Application Tips: Our application system allows you to save and resume your application, however we highly recommend answering the questions in a word document first and then copying and pasting your answers into the application. Click here to download a hard copy of the application.

The applications will be evaluated using the following scoring rubric:

  • Leadership - 5 points
  • Community Support - 5 points
  • Programming - 5 points
  • Goals - 5 points
  • Composting - 5 points
  • Health and Wellness - 5 points
  • Program Overview - 10 points
  • Total Possible Points: 40 points

Once you begin the online application, please remember to save your application. Applications time out after two hour. You may go back in and edit your application by clicking the "save and resume later" button at the bottom of the form. If you do this more than once, you will need to create a new password and username (e.g. Jsmith1, Jsmith2).

Application Confirmation: After submitting the form you will see a message that confirms that you have successfully submitted your application. You will not receive an email confirmation. You will have the option to print your application after submission, however you will not be able to edit or access your answers.

If you submit more than one application, the last application to be submitted will be the one that will be considered by the evaluators.

Award Fulfillment

Grant winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2016.  A list of recipients will be posted on KidsGardening.org and primary contacts will receive an email with additional instructions.

Reporting Requirement

Grant awardees will be required to submit a year-end impact report due in the fall of 2016. Winning programs will be asked to submit 5-10 digital photos of their program with parental release forms, parental release forms can belong to the school or youth program as long as they include Kidsgardening.org and its partners. Programs that do not complete the final report will not be eligible to apply for future awards.
